Brings a lot of color to the room!

Being an amateur Watchmaker has given me a unique understanding of why the hanging Rainbow makers fail (besides the obvious… suction cup failure leading to a fall and the fact that the gears are made from cheap plastic). What happens most of the time, is that someone, for whatever reason, tries to spin the motor by the hanging crystal. This damages, the number one gear with a small teeth. It’s not something that you can see, but it is definitely the beginning of the end as the gear train pushes the crystal in one way only. If you try to force the motor to turn the other way the gear teeth become damaged and tend to lock up on the next gear. Our original double crystal hanging rainbow makers fell off the window and didn’t seem to want to start up, so someone tried to get it to spin by rotating the crystal. It never spun again by itself. While I have not owned one of these new encased rainbow makers, I’ll assume that you could turn the crystal by hand which will do the same damage, so be aware of that. Never turned the crystal by hand.

I ordered 12 Solar Powered Standing RainbowMakers. They arrived in two packages of six each that rattled around inside a much larger box without any protective padding at all. I hand-checked all 12 and they all worked fine.

I received this as a gift and I just LOVED it. The love faded quickly as I have only had for a few months and the lower orange/yellow wheel teeth already wore out, causing the whole thing not to work. The motor works, only the teeth can’t reach the spinning wheel because the teeth are worn off. For such a pricey gadget, it should be built to last longer. I tried to see it I could order a replacement wheel but no luck :(
