The Mil Folhas Project began in 1996 to reforest a public area of the Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil. Mil Folhas which means a Thousand Leaves, is led by the designer and creator of the Critter Wind-ups, Chico Bicalho. Together with Kikkerland, the ZéCar Flywheel Car came into production for the mission to raise awareness and funds. Since the ZéCar introduction, the royalty funds, and Kikkerland’s generous contribution boosted the planting of trees from about 20 thousand to more than 320 thousand. Therefore, ZéCar is not only a zero-carbon footprint car but a car that produces massive amounts of oxygen.
