My wife and I visited a former Meridian Mississippi, steam-engine manufacturing company today know as the "Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum", in 2019/2020. Great tour for just my wife and me. I had lots of questions for the tour director...

Towards the museum exist, naturally, there's a Museum Store. Among all of the trinkets, I saw Cranky, a mechanical device that features a main-spring, offset-weight center column and four support legs. I thought this would be an interesting grandparents play-friend for our granddaughter--and I was right. I often challenged my, then 4 YO GD with what happens if, Poppop removes the off-set hat, remove the wind-up key, bend a leg?--How might this effect Cranky's movements--etc...She did pretty well guessing the outcome.

Today, It is a bit more than a year later and I've received my on-line purchase, for Poppop/Granddaughter play-time the Music Box Assembly kit, another mechanical Cranky-like device called Katita, Famous female science figures, gravitationally aware pendulum spirograph device and a multi key-ring tool for an old man.

Too soon for multi-generational feedback on how well these gifts intended to delight and inspire a almost 6 year old. But plan to continue until my book closes...

Thanks to my deceased parents for exposing me to the Franklin Institute while I was a very young STEaM enthusiast. I've tried my best to continue that exposure to my kids and grand kids.

I picked this up in a museum gift shop in Nashville a couple of days ago and it barely works. It doesn't actually fit in the sound box; I have to literally hold it down while I crank it. The sound is barely audible, but if I tighten it closer, the drum doesn't move at all. Disappointing because my son loves it but it's too frustrating to actually use.

I cannot believe that in the year 2024, you are still making a children's music box kit that plays 'Ten Little Indians'! Kikkerland, PLEASE get with the TIMES!!! If you really want to include something indigenous, there are so many good Inuit, Métis, and First Nations musical artists whose songs you could licence (but not Buffy St. Marie, who it turns out is a Pretendian). If you can't afford a licence, at least stick to traditional songs that don't treat indigenous people as a 'cute joke'.
