The Kikkerland x UO Design Challenge is officially underway, and for their first excursion, our participating student designers went straight to the source: a tour of Urban Outfitters' popular NYC store.Â
Students couldn't have a better guide to parse through shelves-- the wisdom and expertise of Constantin Boym, the celebrated designer instructing the competition, and members of Kikkerland's very own design team.

The young designers have been tasked with creating a product that carries Kikkerland's personality, fits the challenge's theme — celebrating life, connection, and playful joy beyond screens — and would sit naturally on a UO shelf.Â
For many of these Pratt students, walking into that store is nothing new. They've shopped there countless times. But this time, they weren't there to shop — they were there to study a storefront of treasure for clever and creative design ideas.

In just one visit, we could feel the group’s imaginations blossoming with inspiration from the endless variety and personality of Urban Outfitter’s vibrant catalogue.Â
It's early days, but we already can't wait to see what our designers come up with! What kinds of products would you guys like to see?Â
